LATEST NEWS AT HORSESENSE
Check back soon . . . stuff happening all the time here!
JULY 2010
Nikki and Heaven head off to
the Kentucky Horse Park at the end of the month, with games partners
Brandy and Charlie Brown, to participate
in a mounted games exhibition during Breyerfest. (Breyerfest is a
huge convention for model horse enthusiasts;
you can read about
Breyerfest here.) Wish us luck!
We had our best Quadrille Camp ever -- even though we
did it in heat and humidity and intermittent thunderstorms! This
year's camp had two teams that pulled off AMAZING choreography that
thrilled their friends and familes and made us all very proud.
Congratulations to The Mane Event (Becca, Shayla, Delaney and
Ivie) and
to the Knights of Cydonia (KK, Kendall and
Angela). Photos and
videos of their performances coming soon!
3-Day Novice Camp was a pleasure: great
campers, helpful Ground Buddies Shayla,
KK, and Maura, and better
weather! Look for Angela's photos in our Photo Gallery soon.
Quadrille Camp forms are (finally) on the website to
download. Campers should start collecting music that makes them
want to dance with their horse!
JUNE 2010
This year's 5-Day Novice Camp was a testament to the
stamina of horsey girls: temperatures in the mid 90's (except in
the arena, where temps hit over 110 degrees coming off the sand!),
zillion percent humidity, and 10 stalwart campers who had a blast in
spite of it all. Ground Buddies Shayla,
KK, Maggie, Maura and
Ali are our heroes!
Angela's wonderful photos of this camp coming soon!
Eventing Camp is always a rewarding experience for us
because we get to watch our advanced students hone their dressage and
jumping skills -- and because who doesn't like cross-country? This
year's camp was enhanced by the comraderie and sportsmanship of our
campers, from the first flatwork lesson through the end-of-camp
competition. Thanks go to our Ground Buddies,Heather, Jenny and
Momo, for all of their help. Photographers
Angela and
Rhonda provided us will LOTS of great photos of
our camp experience, which can be found here soon.
Congratulations to the participants in our first
Dressage Show and Combined Test -- especially to our Champion,
Maggie, and Reserve Champion,
KK. Show results may be seen here,
and Angela's photos may seen on our Facebook
page (and will be in our Photo Gallery soon).
Zahtar welcomes his two new
Dream Horse Penpals,
Ava and Chloe.
MAY 2010
Our first camp of the year -- Rising Rider I -- was a
great experience! Our ponies enjoyed showing off with the more
experienced riders, and we're proud of all the new riders that learned
to care for and about horses. Thanks go as always to our wonderful
ground buddies! Look for photos of this camp in our Photo Gallery soon.
We finally have a Photo Gallery started! Check
out our cool gallery of horse photos, and
let us know how you like the format. More photos coming soon!
Entry forms for our new Open Dressage Show and
Combined Test are now available to
download. Students should check with Nikki
to determine appropriate classes. Remember that school horses are
available on a limited basis, so be sure to get your forms in early --
the closing date for the show is June 5!
Enrollment forms for Eventing Camp are up on the
website. Eventing Camp forms
should be submitted by June 1. Campers should also complete an entry form for our Open
Dressage Show and Combined Test -- the combined test is part of Evening
Camp, so those entry fees are included in your camp fees. You may
enter additional classes during the show, however.
One of the many advantages at Fowler Farm for our
students: Nikki will be living at the bunkhouse on the Farm.
This means that we can offer overnight sleepovers for selected camps,
with all meals provided for a small additional fee. Woo-hoo!
Peter Pan asked us to
welcome Sophia as his new
Dream Horse Penpal -- and wish her Happy
Birthday!
We're pretty happy that our move to Fowler Farm went
so well .... and that Biscuit got on the trailer for the first time in
three years! Everyone at the Farm has been wonderful as we work
out where to put our horses and all their mountains of Stuff.
Directions to our new home
at Fowler Farm are on our website. The farm is only 9 miles
from the Eagle Mountain gate! Our phone number remains the same,
but please note the change to our email address:

APRIL 2010
Our condolences to our friend and boarder Marilyn
Paige for the loss of her Morgan mare, Annie. Annie has been a
part of our barn family for four years, and we'll miss her.
We had a TERRIFIC Show Jumping Camp
this year --
despite torrential downpours during the Saturday afternoon riding.
Our campers never complained as they slogged around the muddy course on
Saturday, and our show on Sunday was a blast! Congratulations to
Shayla and Sage for their first place
ribbon. Photos from this camp may be seen in our
Photo Gallery.
Well, dang, what HASN'T changed around here lately?
Starting with Coosawattee's waterslide .... and ending with a move for
our riding school and a new name for our business. Read all about
it in the Spring newsletter.
Moving to Fowler Farm this month has necessitated a
few changes in our schedule -- most notably a date
change for our new spring dressage show and combined test (which
is no longer a spring show). The show
will move to June 12, which coincides with the end of our
Eventing Camp. We're looking forward to
our first show at Fowler Farm!
We're always happy to see our out-of-town students
over Spring Break. This year we were fortunate to have
Madeleine
spend her Spring Break cleaning stalls and grooming horses and making
bending poles -- thanks again, Madeleine!
It occurs to us that it's past time to introduce our
new Dream Horse Penpals.
Petey has been writing to
Max since January;
Sage welcomed
Molly as her new penpal in February;
Heaven started writing to
Lexi, one of her favorite students, in March;
and Biscuit had the pleasure
of meeting his new penpal, Haley, for a lesson
during Spring Break.
Show Jump Camp forms are available to download now.
We had a GREAT Mounted Games Camp this month: two
closely-matched teams of talented games players, no rain, and a
thrilling victory gallop! Congratulations to the blue
ribbon-winning "Starstruck" team (Sam,
on Heaven;
Kendall, on Cobie; Shayla
on Sage; and
Sydney on Petey). Thanks to our ground crew:
Heather, Maura, and
Megan. Angela's amazing photos can be seen
here.

Our Intro to Mounted

on Peter Pan and Arron
on Heaven) -- and to Katie

Megan. KK's
wonderful photos are up on our Facebook page and on our
Photo Gallery.
